Heroes

Posted by Chelsea Howe on 16 Mar under People and Ideas

Last week, EVOKE called on its Agents to connect with heroes already changing the world through social innovation. Whether through following, friending, RSS-ing, or even just shooting an email, Agents everywhere came closer to social innovators and are now tracing their footsteps. But how many people have actually heard back from their heroes? Let’s try to find out.

The goal of this post is to collect a list of all the heroes that responded to our agents. How did you follow your hero? What did they say? How were they able to help you? What did you learn? Leave us a short story or a link to your blog post, and if you haven’t, add the tag “HERO” to let us know you connected – I’ll be going through and awarding at least +10 courage to people who’ve been in communication with their heroes!

To give you an idea, here is my story, and the stories of several other agents:

Nnaemeka Ikegwuono

I followed Nnaemeka Ikegwuono, friending him on facebook and perusing for a blog. A few days ago, Nnaemeka messaged me on facebook wanting to hear more about EVOKE and offering to answer any questions I had. In true EVOKE fashion, I submitted a query to people who responded to my original post pondering what I should ask. The questions are in, and I can’t wait to see his response.

Patrick Rothfuss

Agent Brady followed Patrick Rothfuss, a fantasy writer and strong proponent for Heifer International. Not only did she receive a letter back from him, but he explained he was going to be in her area soon and she’s made plans to go hear him talk and hopefully discuss, well, changing the world.

Deb Levine

Agent Roberts connected with Deb Levine from ISIS – Internet Sexuality Information Services – which helps promote better and safer access to information about sex and sexuality. Deb kindly offered to answer Agent Roberts questions about the program and provide mentorship for budding social innovators.

Gavriel Arel

Agent Park chose to shadow Gavriel Arel, a researcher studying the relationship between the US and Iran, especially in regards to nuclear weapons. Gavriel responded to Agent Park with interest in the EVOKE network and a willingness to help Agent Park understand more about his work and way to change the world.

Your-Hero-Here

I know there are plenty more people who have heard back from their heroes – post links here! Grow the network, expand our horizons, weave the web.
