What does an EVOKATION look like?

Posted by Alchemy on 04 Apr under Uncategorized

An EVOKATION is a powerful document. A successful EVOKATION clearly illustrates a specific social challenge, identifies an innovative path to its solution, and inspires confidence in the determination and vision of its authors to undertake that path. Crafting an effective EVOKATION is a process. It will take time, thought, and care.

Nearly every innovative project we have explored on the EVOKE Network started out somewhere as an EVOKATION. As you work towards your own EVOKATIONS, consider these models, put together by teams of passionate innovators like yourselves. Read their proposals and pay attention to how they present their issue, their solution, and most importantly, themselves.

Watch this video for the Kosh project. Then read their proposal and others that have also been selected as semifinalists in the Dell Social Innovation Competition.

Study the winning proposals submitted by Solar Market Garden and Solar Sisters for the Changemakers.org “Women | Tools | Technology” competition.

We don’t expect that your EVOKATION will be as fully-formed as those of these teams, some of whom have spent a year or more working on their projects. However, use these examples as a guide to show you what you can aspire to, and ultimately, achieve.

[...] 9. Can I see an example of a great EVOKATION? This is the first time we’ve run EVOKE, so there aren’t winning EVOKATION examples yet. But you should look very closely at successful submissions to other social innovation challenges to get a good idea of the kind of detail and thoughtfulness that can make your EVOKATION stand out. The submissions for Changemaker competitions are a great place to start. You can also review the EVOKATION advice here. [...]

While enjoying the challenges set forth before us as EVOKE agents, my personal and professional goal to education, inspire and empower others to achieve their own optimum health through better nutition choices, has continued to daunt me locally. Wonderfully enough, I just got an email from our own USDA Food Safety department that a mobile vehicle is going to the Public, rather than the people seeking the information. This vehicle, the Discovery bus, will provide education, especially to children on simple food handling methods that can greatly reduce the enormous numbers of foodborne illness experienced in our country. I will be making calls to our local Health Department to suggest that they request a visit and also post this information on my website. Well, gotta go! So much to do. Thank you for giving us EVOKE and the tools for social change. Be In Good Health.
