I’m new to EVOKE. How do I get started?

The best place for you to start is by reading the graphic novel on the home page of the site.

Next watch the How to Play videos if you haven’t already.

Complete the First Quest which will add additional information to your profile.  (Other Quests can be found on the Quests Page.)

The next step will be reading about each of the Missions and creating responses to them – either by writing a blog post, by posting a photo & telling us about it, or by uploading a video.

How can I protect my privacy while playing EVOKE?

EVOKE is not a private network, and your profile and any content you create for EVOKE will be visible to anyone on the Internet, and in Google search results. If you prefer to retain some anonymity, please register or use “My settings” to change your display name to first name and last initial only.

What does tagging (LEARN1, ACT1, etc.) evidence do?

The tagging helps agents find/organize content.  It doesn’t cause evidence to be logged.

When do we need to have all missions and objectives completed? I want to make sure I don’t miss any!

A new mission will be available each week, but missions don’t “expire” until the game ends in May.

How can I search for people that I know in order to Friend them? They joined on their own without my sending them an invite.

You can search for them by name using the search box on the Agents Page.  You can also use the advanced search to find them. They may not come up in search right away however because it takes a bit of time for the player, ahem agent, search to index.

How can I invite people to EVOKE?

You can invite people by using the Invite Link on the top of the right hand column next to “Friends”.  You can also can invite friends from the “My Profile” page.  The link is on the left-hand side, under where all the friend pictures appear.

I’m having trouble using the search engine on the the Agent page. I can type in an exact name (having found them on another page) and get nothing. Exact locations (countries, city/state) give me the same information.

The search takes up to 36 hours to index player data.  Sorry for the delay, especially if you’re looking for your friends.

Will there be a way to give power to comments?

We don’t have the capability to add this at this time. A workaround would be to encourage the comment poster to write a blog post about the comment / issue / idea / whatever, and then power vote that blog post.

I completed the missions but I forgot to tag them ACT1,LEARN1, IMAGINE1,do I have to do them all over?

You can add tags in after the fact! Just edit your post.

Since i’ve joined this network, I have completed missions but still my evidence has not be reviewed and accepted by alchemy. How long is this process meant to take???

To make sure your evidence is logged, go to the blog post, photo or video you submitted.  Click the button at the top of the page that says “Log your evidence”  Select the Mission and the Objective that you’re submitting from the menu.  Once you’ve finished, you will receive credit for completing the mission.  For more information on logging your evidence see this post.

Is there any way for me to control what name I post under? I’d like it to show first name only, but I don’t see anywhere where I can control that.

We currently have this capability disabled as name changes caused some issues in our game system. We are working to resolve those issues so we can re-enable the name change functionality.

I have a special character in my username and I cannot log my evidence.

We are working to resolve this.  In the meantime here is a compiled workaround for agents that do not see the drop down and label box and have special characters in their user name:
- click “Log Your Evidence to Complete Your Mission” after submission
- the box (for those with problems the box is white with a blurred pattern) is underneath your article/video or picture and above the Power Vote box
- right click on the space where the box should be and choose “open frame in new tab”
- compare your name after vn= in the beginning of the url which shows in your browser address and later in the code after the pn=
- Replace your name spell after vn= with the one after pn= and press return
- Reload the page / frame
- You should see the labels and drop down menu

What steps have been taken to prevent cyber-bullying, inappropriate language, and other safety concerns of students?

Ning is as safe and secure as any platform online. In the case of EVOKE, it’s even more secure because of the team of admins and game runners, constantly combing through and approving evidence and participating in the community. If you have any complaints, at all, please click of the report button on any piece of evidence and all the game runners will get an automated email of your complaint.

I want to be a mentor. How do I start?
